Fragments of the Forest
An outdoor ceramic installation exploring the impacts of climate change on native trees.
Take a moment to imagine a future without trees. Each ceramic vessel in this installation celebrates the beauty of native trees and serves as a stark warning of what we stand to lose to climate change. This work invites viewers to deepen their understanding of trees through artistic engagement and calls for collective action to protect them.

This exhibition is a partnership with Hoyt Arboretum Friends and will be held at Family Forest Day. It is funded in part by the Regional Arts & Culture Council and the Office of Arts & Culture.
This installation includes three series of pieces representing the impacts of climate change on Native Trees.
Wildfire
The surfaces of these pieces show ash, flashing, and atmospheric variations from more than 30 hours in the wood-fire kiln. They are decorated with plant impressions and prints using underglaze, inks, slip, and carving. High-fire porcelain and stoneware, wood-fired in the Catenary Soda Kiln at East Creek Art.
Infestation
Some surfaces exhibit flashing and other variations due to the oxygen-starved kiln environment. They are decorated with layers of colored slip and carvings, highlighted by plant prints and impressions. High-fire porcelain and stoneware, fired in reduction in a gas kiln at Radius Art Studio.
Drought
Surfaces have rough textures and special-effects glazes. They are decorated with plant impressions, prints, and slips with grog inclusion, underglaze, inks, and glaze. Mid-fire porcelain and stoneware, fired in an electric kiln at Morning Ceramics.
